Our Hebrews and Hip Hop tabling at TMU with SSI TMU was a huge success!

It was an incredible display of allyship and camaraderie at our first tabling of the semester with Students Supporting Israel (SSI) at Toronto Metropolitan University.

We are proud of our Common Ground Ambassador and AVI/HRC Campus Media Fellow Liat Schwartz, who is also President of SSI TMU, for leading our Hebrews and Hip Hop table with Senior Campus Advisor Idaliah Snajdman.

Several students, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, stopped by our table and showed their support for AVI’s initiatives and mission to unite students of all backgrounds against anti-Jewish hatred.

Plenty of laughs were had at our “Uniting Through Laughter” event with Yuk Yuk's Comedy Founder Mark Breslin.

Also, a huge shoutout to the The Lodzer Congregation for providing the perfect venue for the evening.

This week's #AmbassadorSpotlight is rapper Robert Rihmeek Williams, known by his stage name as “Meek Mill”

This week’s #AllySpotlight is rapper Robert Rihmeek Williams, known by his stage name as Meek Mill.

In 2023, Mill joined some 10,000 people from all over the world in Poland for the annual March of the Living, a 2-mile walk from Auschwitz to Birkenau, where Nazis murdered over a million civilians – mostly Jews – during World War II.

Mill, a 35-year-old African American rapper from Philadelphia, did not have any prior connection to the atrocities that happened there. But at a time of rising antisemitism in the US, his presence spoke volumes, and that was the point.

Mill said he went to Auschwitz to “see this for myself and learn about it for myself,” describing what he saw there as “terror, pain, something you can’t really explain.”
