What Brought Us To October 7th & What Is Happening Now: A Crash Course In Israeli History

Though many individuals aim to respond to current events in Israel and Gaza, it is essential to set the groundwork for these conversations by understanding critical historical events. This presentation investigates the events leading up to October 7th and discusses the impact of these events today. Before we can apply a Western lens to a Middle Eastern topic, we need to peel back some of the layers of history intertwined in the events today.

Disputed Territories: Working Towards Understanding

One of the most misunderstood elements of Israeli history is the disputed nature of the land. This presentation goes through significant historical events contributing to the categorization of territories in and around Israel as disputed, including a description of different layers contributing to each area (borders, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank/Shomron).

Are Jewish People Indigenous To The Land Of Israel?

When discussing minority groups, it is crucial to delve into terms that resonate with congruent histories worldwide. Indigeneity, a topic of immense significance, will be thoroughly explored in this presentation. By examining an international definition of "indigenous" through the lens of the Jewish people and the land of Israel, we aim to enlighten and empower our audience with a deeper understanding of indigeneity in a global context. The United Nations defines indigeneity in the Martinez Cobo Report as historical continuity with one of the five factors of Indigeneity (Land, Culture, Ancestry, Residence, Language). We explore these factors as they apply to the Jewish people, as well as present-day situations.

BDS: Undermining Coexistence & Dialogue

The BDS movement, with its far-reaching consequences, is a cause for concern. In this presentation, we will delve into the origins of the BDS movement and its current impact. By examining its effects on Israelis, Palestinians, and individuals living outside of the region, we aim to motivate you to take action against this movement.

Understanding The Nuances Of Language

When engaging in discourse, it is important to establish operational definitions so all parties can discuss the topic on an equal playing field. The language you choose to use has many implications in conversations about the Arab-Israeli conflict. This presentation integrates psychological concepts to explore these implications, equipping participants to engage in varied environments.

Understanding Anti-Jewish Hatred: A Working Example

The first step to combating anti-Jewish hatred is identification. This presentation not only explores the historical iterations of anti-Jewish hatred but also equips you with practical identification skills for the present. By explaining the 3 D's of antisemitism (delegitimization, double standards, demonization), and highlighting their utility in identifying discrimination, we ensure that students are prepared to create safe and welcoming spaces for minority groups, such as the Jewish community. This workshop gives students the opportunity to apply these identification methods to current examples of anti-Jewish hatred, empowering them to be global agents in the fight against discrimination in all its forms.

From Dialogue To Impact: Effective Israel Communication

Discover practical strategies for fostering meaningful dialogue, building common ground, and authentically sharing personal experiences. We highlight the need for seeing the individual, actively listening to their perspective, and consciously choosing an appropriate response. This workshop applies these principles through helping students acquire the skills and confidence they need to effectively address anti-Israel claims, while sparking curiosity and inspiring others to explore possibilities for open conversation within diverse groups.
